Shark Stainless Product Related FAQ
Why stainless steel tool boxes/storage units?
Stainless Steel is a superior metal. It does not rust nor deteriorate. All of the other tool boxes on the market are painted mild steel. Any chipping or exposure to the elements will lead to rust and deterioration.
What type of stainless steel is used in Shark products?
The 304-grade stainless steel used in Shark Stainless products is non-magnetic with uncharacteristic strength produced through cold working the steel. Shark products are not heated and therefore are cold-worked to create harder steel.
The 430-grade stainless steel has a 5% composition of nickel. Nickel is subject to slight rust but can be easily rubbed out. 430-grade is also magnetic due to its nickel content. Shark Stainless has chosen 304-grade to eliminate any possibility of ‘red’ rusting appearance and to create a premium product.
How do you take care of stainless steel?
Shark Stainless has a cleaner available here on the website http://www.sharkstainless.com/shop/product.asp?idProduct=18 . This cleaner is a superior product that clean and protect your tool box from dirt, fingerprints and grease.
If a scratch appears on your stainless steel product, use an abrasive cleaning pad (not steel wool) such as a Scotch Brite® and rub along the grain. The scratch will buff out and the metal will ‘heal’ itself. Deep scratches are not repairable.
Why is stainless considered a "Green" Material?
The health of the natural environment and the role of materials impacting the ecosystem is an on-going concern of people everywhere. Stainless steel is completely recyclable and is a very sterile metal when kept clean.
You can find stainless in kitchens, hospitals and "clean rooms". Why not in your garage? Hospitals and laboratories inquire about our products in use at their companies, too.
Can stainless steel rust?
Stainless does not rust! Regular steel may rust with a red oxide on the surface that flakes off. If you do see red rust it is probably from some iron particles that have contaminated the stainless surface. The cause of the rust are the foreign particles. Just remove them by cleaning the unit.
I have a Shark Stainless product and have lost/broken my key. How do I replace it?
Each Shark Stainless toolbox is fitted with Medeco locks. Each key ring will have an identification number displayed on the small aluminum tag. Contact Shark Stainless with the identification number and new keys will be provided. Please do not move or remove the identification tag.
